Travel Tips

Other Helpful Advice

Whenever I travel, I always take precautions to minimize the hassle of unpleasant occurrences such as luggage mishaps, a lost wallet, or a missed transfer.

Sharing our decades of travel experience is one of the best value-adds we provide to our clients. We can never prevent things from happening (they inevitably will), but we CAN take measures to reduce the impact when they do, by following some basic guidelines before every vacation:

  • Check US State Department for information including Passport and Visa requirements, US testing and entry requirements, local travel advisories, and requirements for single parents and non-parents traveling outside of the US with children.
  • Carry one "emergency" credit card with you and leave it in your hotel/cabin safe. It is always helpful to have a back-up.
  • Use a webmail account (Gmail, Hotmail, etc.) to email yourself a color copy of the first and last pages of your passport (password encrypted, of course, which you can easily do with any number of free PDF tools).
  • Whenever possible, keep a copy of important travel documents such as boarding passes, cruise documents, vaccine cards, PCR test results and e-tickets in your in-box, preferably sorted into one folder. It's actually more secure than carrying paper copies, and electronic documents can be retrieved from anywhere in the world!
  • We highly recommend vacation protection, and always quote with it included. Insurance not only protects your investment 1, but can cover you and your family for issues ranging from missing or lost luggage to medical needs including emergency evacuation, and other incidents which can spoil even the most well-planned journeys.

1 Individual policies vary in range and terms of coverage, e.g. travel vouchers vs. cash refund, claim windows, cancellation protection and covered events, etc. Insurance must typically be purchased at the time of deposit to provide optimal protection, e.g. for pre-existing conditions, and typically cannot be purchased after final payment has been made.

We always provide insurance options based on your travel plans and individual needs. While insurance can be removed by request at the client's discretion, we strongly encouraged you not to disregard this valuable option.
